🩺 Today’s Patient: Trupo Creamy Rice Milk Chocolate Caramel Nougat Bar

Sometimes you walk into a bakery for one thing… and walk out with something unexpected.

That’s exactly what happened when I visited
Wheat's End Cafe — a completely gluten-free bakery in Chicago.

While I was checking out with my baked goods, I spotted a candy bar from
Trupo Treats near the register.

The packaging said vegan and gluten-free, and when I saw the words caramel nougat, I didn’t need much convincing.

Full disclosure: I planned to review this at home, but hunger had other plans… so the photos were taken in the car. Real life happens.

Let’s run the HEART Exam.

Nutrition

Per serving (½ bar):

• Calories: 110
• Fat: 4.5g
• Saturated Fat: 3.2g
• Carbohydrates: 17g
• Fiber: 0g
• Protein: <1g

The entire bar equals two servings.

Ingredients

First three ingredients:

• Sugar
• Glucose syrup
• Cocoa butter

This candy bar is labeled:

✔ Vegan
✔ Gluten-free

The brand’s mission is to recreate classic childhood candy bars in vegan and gluten-free versions.

MyPlate Teaching

This is clearly a treat food.

It mainly contributes added sugars and carbohydrates with minimal protein or fiber.

That doesn’t mean it can’t fit into life.

The key is balance and moderation.

Example:

🍫 Candy bar treat
🥤 Pair with a protein smoothie or protein snack

When we add protein or fiber, it helps stabilize blood sugar and keep us fuller longer.

Everyone’s nutrition needs are different, so always work with your own healthcare provider to decide what balance works best for you.

E: Eating 🍽

Taste

I actually really enjoyed this candy bar.

The rice milk chocolate is smooth and creamy.

The caramel has that classic stretchy, caramel-y texture, and the nougat layer reminded me of a Milky Way from what I remember (it’s been a long time since I’ve had one!).

Overall flavor: sweet, nostalgic, and satisfying.

Texture

• Soft nougat center
• Stretchy caramel layer
• Smooth chocolate coating

Not messy as long as you eat it out of the package.

Real Life Review Moment

I didn’t intend to eat this in the car… but hunger won.

Luckily it wasn’t messy, and I survived the car snack test just fine.

Clinical tip from clinic:

🧼 Always wash your hands before eating when possible.

A: Accessibility 🛒

I purchased this bar at:

Wheat's End Cafe

Price: $4.43 with tax

The brand website suggests their products may also be available online through
Trupo Treats

If you're curious about their mission to recreate nostalgic candy bars, you can explore their website:

One practical note: I carried this in my purse for a day, and it held up fine. But on hot days, I would avoid leaving it in a bag too long because it could melt.

R: Rhythm Rating ❤️‍🔥

Tachycardia (Love It)

I would definitely buy this again.

The flavor and texture combination hit that nostalgic candy bar spot.

However, I probably wouldn’t buy multiple at once because it’s easy to eat the whole bar when it technically counts as two servings.

T: Tell Others & Tips 📣

✔ Great option for vegan and gluten-free candy lovers
✔ Good for a sweet treat when cravings hit
✔ Pair with protein or fiber to balance a snack

For example:

🍫 Candy bar
🍓 Strawberry smoothie
🥤 Protein drink

On the day I ate this, I paired it with a simple strawberry smoothie made from strawberries, ice, water, and a little stevia.

Did it make the candy bar healthier?

Not exactly… but it helped balance the snack a bit.

As always, enjoy treats in a way that helps you live safe, happy, healthy.
