🍽️ DINING WITH VITAL SIGNS: FIELD EXAM @ Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab – Chicago📍 60 E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611

🩺 Dining with Vital Signs: Joe’s Seafood (Chicago)

My husband and I headed into the city for a Christmas Market day and decided to make reservations at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab. I’m very glad we did — the restaurant was packed when we arrived around 12:45 pm.

We checked in at the hostess stand, waited about five minutes, and were then escorted to our table.

❤️ Heart Rate (First Impressions)

Joe’s was buzzing — busy, energetic, and full. Because of the crowd, I kept photos minimal (just my food and a bit of the interior) out of respect for other diners.

The overall vibe felt upscale but efficient, even with how full the restaurant was.

🫁 Respiratory (Service & Allergy Communication)

At the table, we were greeted first with water and then by our server. She was kind, calm, and confident, which immediately lowered my stress.

I explained that I have gluten and dairy allergies, and she did not seem nervous at all. I told her I usually order:
Hash browns (my absolute favorite dish here)
Broccolini to add a vegetable

She immediately confirmed both were safe and said she would note the allergies for the kitchen.

My husband ordered clam chowder and a wedge salad. Even though he doesn’t have allergies, our server clearly stated that the clam chowder contains gluten and wanted to make sure I didn’t accidentally take a bite — which I really appreciated. (For the record: I don’t eat his food unless it’s 100% gluten- and dairy-free anyway… and I don’t like seafood 😅.)

🧠 Neuro Check (Cleanliness & Safety)

As always, I checked out the restroom and washed my hands.

✔️ Clean
✔️ Single-use bathrooms
✔️ Disposable paper hand towels (a personal favorite — one towel is all you need to fully dry your hands)

Small detail, big appreciation.

🍽️ GI System (Food & Tolerance)

Joe’s does not offer gluten-free/dairy-free bread, buns, or substitutes for burgers — so planning around naturally safe menu items is key.

Hash Browns:
Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, salty, and somehow buttery without butter. Extremely filling. These are hands-down my favorite item here.

Broccolini:
Firm-tender and cooked in a garlicky sauce that tastes amazing. I could also taste hints of red pepper, which added brightness and depth.

The portions are generous. I finished about ⅓ of the hash browns and ½ of the broccolini. Thankfully, my husband patiently waited and then finished the rest — which I secretly think is why he ordered a wedge salad in the first place 😉

📈 Vital Signs Summary (Rhythm Ratings)

Hash Browns: 💓 Tachycardia — would come here just for these
Broccolini: 💗 Sinus Rhythm — solid, flavorful, and well-prepared

🧾 Cost Check

• Hash Browns: $10.95
• Broccolini: $10.95

Yes, Joe’s is expensive overall — but this is downtown Chicago, and I don’t come here often. When I do, I’m always happy.

🩹 Discharge Instructions (Final Thoughts)

Joe’s Seafood handled allergies professionally and thoughtfully, even during an extremely busy service. Clear communication, confident staff, and consistent food quality make this a place I feel safe returning to.
