Health

Time for a checkup! Here, I’ll diagnose whether this food keeps my body in tip-top shape or if it’s more of a sugar rush than a wellness boost. Sugar CAN increase my dopamine so maybe this food will get a high rating because of my mental health.  Will it get a clean bill of health, or is it just here for a quick pulse of fun?

Eating

Let’s scrub in for the taste test! Is this snack a spoonful of sugar, or does it need some flavor resuscitation? I’ll share whether I eat it straight out of the package or jazz it up with a culinary procedure. And, of course, I’ll give you the pulse on my family’s verdict—is it met with applause or polite bedside manner?

Accessibility

: Stat! Can I find this food in the wild aisles of my local grocery, or is it a rare specimen only found online? Are the costs stable, or will it send my wallet into cardiac arrest? I’ll give you the prognosis on availability and price.

Tell Others

Paging all foodies! Would I shout about this snack from the hospital rooftops, or keep it confidential like provider–patient privilege? If it’s TikTok worthy, you’ll be the first to know!

Rhythm Rating

Here’s where I take the food’s vital signs! Flatline means the food has no heartbeat in my kitchen (sorry, not making a comeback). Bradycardic? It’s got a slow beat—okay in a pinch, but I won’t monitor it closely. Sinus rhythm? That’s a healthy, steady favorite—if I see it, I’ll pick it up! And Tachycardic? This food makes my heart race—I keep it stocked like life-saving epinephrine.

Charting My Dining Diagnosis: A Nurse Practitioner’s Gastrointestinal Grand Rounds

A Stay-at-Home Mom’s Case Report (With Gluten & Dairy Allergies)

Let’s scrub in and chart my latest dining adventure—stat!

Pulse: Upon arrival, I checked for signs of life. Was there a healthy thrum of activity, like a waiting room on Monday morning, or was the place flatter than a post-call ECG? Did I need a reservation, or could I just walk in like I was on a Code Brown diaper run? The host—did they greet me with the enthusiasm of a fresh cup of coffee on a night shift, or the indifference of a toddler toward leafy greens?

Respirations: : Once seated, I disclosed my “chronic conditions”—gluten and dairy allergies—like a good patient history. My server’s reaction? Did they have that “I’ve got this” nurse confidence, or did they do the classic “let me check with the attending chef” consult? Was their allergy protocol as reassuring as a negative strep screen, or did I start prepping my steriods just in case?

Temperature: Time for clinical assessment of the food! Was the presentation as impressive as a perfectly charted SOAP note, or more like my kid’s play-dough experiment? Did my meal come with clear allergy bands—er, markers—so I knew it was safe to proceed? And when I peppered the staff with questions, did they respond like a seasoned charge nurse or give me the “Dr. Google” shoulder shrug? Most importantly, did my taste buds get the TLC they deserved, or was this another bland hospital meal?

Blood Pressure:Final assessment—did I stay normotensive, or did my anxiety spike with every bite? Was I relaxed enough to enjoy the meal, or did I feel like I was running a code with every forkful? At discharge (a.k.a. the check), was I already planning my next visit, or would I rather triage another toddler tantrum than return?

Dining out with allergies as a stay-at-home mom and Nurse Practitioner-in-hiatus is basically running a one-woman clinic—complete with risk assessment, consults, and a little wishful thinking for a follow-up visit. Chart complete!

Symptoms

What are the ingredients and which ones did I have to swap to fit my needs?

Initial Examination

What was my first impression? Was the recipe very complex or could I whip it up in a jiffy. Did I need a “brain break” after reading all the steps a few times *I typically have to do this. Did I feel I could modify the ingredients easily or would it cause a recipe crash?

Side Effects

Were there any issues with my tissues? Did I make a few errors and can’t use white-out?  Was there anything I needed to take a mental note on for next time? Did I have to call my mom and ask for help?

Treatment Plan

Let’s talk about it! What are the step-by-step steps?

Prognosis

I will give my overall impression. Was this a go or a no? Would I make this again or should I pass?
